A Quick Review of Summer’s Hot New Products

It’s been a very busy summer here at Coastal. In between all of the tradeshows and the construction of our brand new demonstration room (it’s almost done!), we’ve introduced an abundance of new products and equipment that you may have missed. Here are just a few of our favorite hot new products:

Sippy cups – Every parent will LOVE the chance to create a personalized sippy cup for their child. Add the child’s name, a special photo or a personalized design – this will be the hit of the playground! Plus, our sippy cups come in three different vibrant colors.

Mug Master Pro – We carried the Mug King mug press for many years, but recently realized it was time to offer something that is multi-functional and allows our customers to get more bang for their buck. The Mug Master Pro mug press (priced similarly to the Mug King) includes additional attachments that allow you to press not only regular 11 oz sublimation mugs, but 15 oz mugs, 12 oz latte mugs and 17 oz latte mugs. The Secrets to a Perfect Opaque Transfer

Heat transfers for dark garments (otherwise known as opaque transfers) are a necessity when it comes to heat transfers – not many businesses can be based on white garments only! However, opaque transfers have a unique problem: in order to allow the image to transfer onto a dark garment without the color of the garment bleeding through, the base of the transfer must be completely white. Therefore, if you don’t do anything to eliminate it, you will be left with an unsightly white box around your image. Thankfully, there are solutions beyond trimming around the image by hand! 3G JET-OPAQUE® Heat Transfer Paper was designed in 2009 to apply decoration to dark fabrics.  The thorough evaluation of prototypes, trial runs and finished products included evaluation on synthetic fiber t-shirts.  100% cotton, 50/50 blend and 100% synthetic fiber garments were used in the evaluation. Performance fabrics that contain lycra were not included since this is a film transfer and not designed to be breathable.

The dyes used for polyester fiber have a tendency to sublimate if they are heated very hot.  To reduce this, it is recommended that the application temperature be reduced and the dwell time be increased.  Since the amount of dye, type of dye and how readily it sublimes varies significantly across the number of products available we recommend starting with 350 F and working down in 25 degree increments until the dye no longer sublimes.  As the temperature decreases increase the dwell time from 30 seconds to insure that the transfer is bonded and will have good wash-durability.   Continue reading “The Wonderful World of 3G Jet Opaque”
