My new favorite product: Digi-Trans No Weed Laser Transfer Paper

Don’t let the newness of Digi-Trans No Weed Laser Transfer Paper fool you. This paper truly stands up to its expectations.

Most heat transfer papers on the market have that dreaded polymer background that forces you to trim your image. So, you can either trim it by hand or use a vinyl-cutting machine. Using scissors isn’t bad, unless you have a very intricate design that isn’t just four cuts to a square. And vinyl cutting machines can range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars, making it quite a costly investment.

No trimming! No weeding! No border!

Other no-weed transfer papers usually involve having to press the transfer onto a second sheet at a lower temperature and THEN press it to the garment. I’m not sure about you, but I only have one heat press and waiting for it to cool down and heat back up is not something I want to spend valuable time on.

This is where my new favorite product comes in. Digi-Trans Laser Transfer has a one-step application. I can press it just like a regular transfer, at one temperature, and not have to press it to another sheet like other papers to eliminate the background. Here at Coastal, we love it so much that we decided to make it one of our own house brand papers.

Also, don’t let the fact that it is laser scare you…Digi-Trans is a very universal paper that will work in most any laser printer or copier with or without fuser oil. A lot of people are not comfortable using laser printers with transfer paper, but with this paper is universal enough to be worth a try. Plus, you would no longer have to worry about your customers bringing shirts back with bleeding from inkjet transfers.

It is as simple as this…

1.Print your design using a laser printer on the Digi-Trans Paper.

2. Press at 330 degees F for 25 seconds.

3. Remove from heat press, wait 5 seconds, and peel.

No cutting, No second step pressing to second sheet. One step. That is it!

The outcome is great too. The vibrant colors will stand up to the most popular laser transfer papers out there.  You can even stretch the image as soon as you remove it from the press to achieve a softer hand.

With all of these amazing attributes, how could you not be curious about trying Digi-Trans No Weed Laser Transfer Paper?! I hope my own thoughts and opinions make you want to give this paper a go and hopefully you will add it to your stock.

  1. I did try this with a Xerox Phaser 7760 and it did NOT work. I am currently looking to find a printer that will work with it so if you have any recommendations, I welocme them. I would prefer a tabloid sized printer. I need to purchase soon so any help is appreciated.

    1. What issues did you have with the paper on the Xerox Phaser 7760? We have an Okidata C8800 we use in house with excellent results. We have always like the Oki products with transfers.

  2. Sometimes laser heat transfer papers require a few tricks to get them running smoothly. If the paper is not getting a full print or jamming in the printer, you may need to slow down the paper causing it to move slower through the printer. This will allow more time for the toner to fuse to the paper completely. To do this, try changing your paper mode to something like “transparency” or “label” or whichever you printer likes. Another thing to remember is to fee the paper in a by-pass tray, short side first. This mean that the shorts (8.5″ side) goes into the printer first-portrait orientaition. Hope this helps!

  3. have xerox workcentre 7425 – will not feed paper….Jams everytime…
Very disappointed….This is a high end machine which is designed to
    take vitrually any median

    1. It can be difficult to find a laser printer that works well with heat transfer paper. I would suggest checking with the manufacturer to make sure that the printer does not fuse above 350 F, otherwise you will not be able to use with transfer paper. The other options you have are to run the paper through on “transparency” mode or weight to slow down the printer during the printing process. This can help prevent jamming as well.

  4. I have bought 2 packs of digi-trans from coastal, and they costed me double to reach my country. The results are horrible, tried different methods and they r not working at all. Very horrible product.

    1. I’m so sorry to hear that. DigiTrans can be slightly difficult to work with depending on the printer you are using. Please email our tech support department at techsupport@coastalbusiness.com so we can get more details about the problems you’re encountering and try to troubleshoot with you to get the paper to work if possible. Thanks!

  5. I tried this paper with the Dell 1320c and the ink smeared all over the paper or jammed every time.
I didn’t see any setting in the printer’s settings that resemble “transparency mode” and have given up experimenting for now. I’ll reconsider if Coastal Business will test this product for me. Is there a published list of printer test results? This would be very helpful.

    1. We have tested Digi-Trans No Weed laser transfer paper extensively – before we began selling it and still while it’s being sold, just to double-check if any original findings are no longer true. However, it would be impossible for us to test this paper on every printer brand and model on the market, which is why we don’t offer a list of compatible printers. Even if you use the exact same model as we did, if you’re not using the correct settings you’ll still have difficulty with the paper. It sounds as though the laser printer you’re using has a very high fusing temperature. I would highly suggest contacting the manufacturer to find out where the “transparency” or “card stock” paper options are, as well as to make sure that the printer is fusing below 350F, for optimal results.

  6. I have a customer that wants me to try Digi-trans paper out on our Xerox Igen 150 press. Should I go for it or say no. Not too keen on the comments that I am hearing about digi-Trans material.

  7. I printed the paper on new OKI 831 which prints great. But when I tried to press the image on 100 heavy cotton. The image didnt quite come off completely I trying increasing the heat press to 350 and repressing but THE paper stuck to the shirt. How ever it pressed on 100% cotton light exellent. I have these 100 heavy cotton left from my client. What would you recommend me to do to get them to.press on 100% heavy cotton?jamie

    1. Hello Jamie,

The one thing Digi-Trans need more than anything is a really heavy pressure. Usually I tell our customers to have it almost to the point its hard to close the press. I would lower your temperature back down and try increasing your pressure.
